Of the NEA's 3.2 millon members nationwide, an estimated 1 millon are politically Republican. This means NEA has a higher percentage of identified Republicans than nationally reported in the latest U.S. polls. Right here in Alaska, over 2,300 NEA-AK members are registered Republicans.

We understand that our engaged involvement in the political process will assist in changing the dynamics surrounding public school improvement. The NEA-AK Republican Caucus will help both the Republican Party and our Teacher Associations to find common ground around our shared values and vision, recognizing the vitally important role that both the GOP and the NEA play in achieving educational progress.
Our primary goal is to improve the relationship between Republican Party organizations and Teacher's Association affiliates at all levels.
Ultimately, an essential purpose is to make both the GOP and the NEA-AK better organizations. We as GOP members hope that both the Republican Party and the Teacher's Associations will become more effective partners in advancing the quality public schools agenda.
NEA-AK has gotten the message of cooperation! Since 2006, ten Republican candidates in State of Alaska House and Senate races have been endorsed by NEA-AK. In 2009, five Republican state candidates have received campaign contributions.
